Personal Work
January 6, 2010
Sometimes it’s important to give yourself an assignment and go out into the world… See if you still “got it!” I had spoken with the Science Rockets at our local fine arts council fundraiser and about creating a band portrait. We have yet to do that but I was able to finally catch a performance! A few lovely images….

What a long, crazy and FUN 10 days spent covering the Sublette County Fair! I almost have all of the images online! Yippee!! I am so proud of every kid that competed last week! Everyday I was completely inspired by the hard work and dedication each contestant showed in their projects and in working with their animals! Amazing youth!! I will post more shots next week! What an amazing job I have! As for the last picture of me… My dear friend Seth always says- If you don’t get dirty your not doing your job right : )
Take a minute and check out a few pictures HERE! Enjoy!

What a cute little man!! Caleb came in with his mom and two his two darling older sisters for his newborn images. He was such a happy and relaxed baby. While he really didn’t feel like sleeping he was very accommodating. When he did fall asleep we had a blast and got quite a few beautiful images! While we were waiting for Caleb to fall asleep his older sisters Hannah and Sarah had way to much fun posing for the camera! They are quite the little models! Plus they are both BEAUTIFUL!! Happy ninth birthday Hannah!

Congratulations to all forty-three seniors that graduated this year! Check out the photos!

Meet beautiful Mercedes Francis. Named after her great grandmother, she is adorably petite and so beautiful! She was born four weeks early and was quite the trooper! Once they were home and healthy she with her stunning mom, Ivy came in for her first session. She was quite the party animal! Hardly slept a wink the entire time we were shooting and wasn’t very fond of being naked or our constant posing! She was wiggling all over and just having a grand old time! I love the interactions between her and her mom, what a incredible bond that has already formed! I do have to admit she is older than most of my newborn clients so her eyes are much more open and alert than what you normally see in most newborn images. Welcome to the world little one! Enjoy.

Ashley and Sloane's destination wedding in Pinedale at the White Pine Resort!
A recent released report listed some of the top wedding trends for 2009. As I get ready for wedding season, I’m noticing a LOT of these trends! Have you seen very many of these being used! Let me know!
- Cheesecakes, cupcakes, miniature cakes and my favorite!! Macaroons- The delightful French cookies not only have a delicious almond flavor and light texture, but bakers have a tradition of making them in bright eye-catching colors, making them perfect for weddings. The newest trend is creating a tower of macaroons instead of a wedding cake, but they’re also stunning as favors or as accompaniment to wedding cake
- Affordable and “Rewearable” Bridesmaid Dresses Forget the peach tulle atrocities of yesteryear. 2009 brides are considerate, and mindful of the economy, so they’re looking for bridesmaid dresses that are truly rewearable, and don’t come with a sky-high price tag. For a beach wedding, consider telling your bridesmaids that they can wear a knee-length, spaghetti-strap dress in any shade of blue. They’ll not only be able to shop the department store sales, but your wedding reflect the beautiful colors of the ocean. If you still want a unified bridal party look, consider gathering your maids for a group shopping expedition.
- Vintage Fashion and Fascinators- Having a vintage-inspired wedding is a great way to add some style without adding a lot of cost. 1920’s weddings will be especially hot this year. Especially look for brides wearing birdcage veils and fascinators. If you’re a Project Runway fan, you’ll definitely recall Kenley’s fascinators – the feathery charms that perch on your head. But many other designers also make a wide range of fascinators. They look both vintage and modern, whimsical and classic, all at the same time.
- Rustic homespun details- Outdoor weddings — on a farm, in a vineyard, or even in the backyard — are huge right now, and we’ll continue to see a lot of them in 2009. It’s really no wonder: An outdoor setting makes for a fun, laid-back vibe and the decor options are limitless. So what kinds of details are in store? Vintage vases filled with fresh-from-the-garden flowers, mismatched china in bright colors, and homemade wooden signs to direct guests. Even catering is in on the action with in-season ingredients paired with local wine.
- Jewel tones- Say good-bye to pale pastels and bright poppies. Rich gem colors like navy, plum, and amber are going to be hot. And instead of chocolate brown, look to a soft creme brulee hue, bronzes, coppers, and black. Yes, that’s right — black is back too.
- Patterns that pop- Gingham, checkered, polka-dotted, paisley, toile, damask — you name it, colorful patterns are in and in a big way. Add patterned overlays to your tables to instantly perk up the room, find an off-the-rack patterned dress for your bridesmaids, and have your invitations and envelopes lined with colorful designs. The best part about this trend is that it lets you throw around a lot of different hues and still keep a cohesive look and feel.
- Ball gowns are back- From a full A-line gown to a very over-the-top design, this silhouette will make a huge resurgence down ceremony aisles this year. And you don’t have to have a ballroom wedding to pull it off either — the key is in the fabric. Find one with layers of airy tulle or even cotton for an outdoor spring or summer wedding; get a silk satin ball gown for a more formal wedding; or go for ultra-soft suede for a wintertime wedding.
- New centerpiece vessels- The classic floral vase has given way to mix-and-matched clusters of vintage pitchers, vases, jars, and galvanized buckets. Other ideas: apothecary jars with colorful rocks, sand, or even candy; uniquely shaped glass vases featuring fresh fruits like raspberries and blueberries; and mason jars loaded with fresh flowers like daisies and dahlias. To throw extra color or texture into the mix, line your flower-filled vases with patterned paper or even fabric. For a wintertime fete, get knit and sweater-like coverings to line your vases and complement a cozy decor.
- Chandeliers and creative lighting- Lighting designers are turning out impressive designs, projecting chandeliers, large trees, flowers, and even city skylines right onto the walls. When it comes to your space, hang chandeliers in different sizes, add colorful lamps and shades to the tables, line the room with strands of twinkling lights, and don’t skimp on the candles.
- The updated photo booth- Renting a photo booth has been growing in popularity over the past few years. The updated version? Entire photo sets with fabric backdrops and props. Set up a photo area at the reception that’s big enough for a group shot. Drape the background with fabric and add couches, chairs, and plenty of props (think easy-to-throw-on hats and scarves). You may be able to have your photographer or an assistant man the station, or ask a trusty friend to be on hand with a digital camera.
- Smaller weddings with fewer guests- For a variety of reasons that range from cost to a desire for an intimate and romantic experience, more and more brides are choosing smaller venues and inviting fewer guests.
- Off-peak weddings; Mornings, Afternoons, Fridays, Sundays, October becomes the new June
- Hors d’oeuvre, and cocktail receptions often before the wedding even starts! How fun!
- US honeymoon- This year, newlyweds will prove that you don’t have to travel halfway around the world to find an amazing honeymoon spot. Many will be looking to book a honeymoon right here in the US. And there’s no shortage of domestic honeymoon-worthy options — from a romantic winery in Sonoma County, California, to a hot hotel in Miami, Florida, to a cozy lodge with a stunning view in Juneau, Alaska.
Avery and her family helped me break in the new studio last Friday. We had so much fun and she was so well behaved. I can’t stress to new mothers how important it is to get their little one in as soon as they can and Avery’s mom set a new record! Avery is only four days old in these photos! Way to go Amy! She is one amazing mom and her two other kids were such angels. Cope made me laugh so hard when he asked, “have you met my little sister? She just got out of mom’s stomach!” They played quietly with their dad the whole time we were photographing their little sister. Even their dad, Cole came along for a couple images! What a guy! I never get tired of the way a newborn looks being held in her daddy’s hands! Enjoy!
I had such a hard time getting all of my favorite images into this slideshow. This was one incredible day! Ashely and Wade are two of the most in love people I have ever photographed! Enjoy!
